The global artificial lift market in oil and gas is valued at over 22 billion US dollars and continues to grow. This market has attracted numerous businesses and entrepreneurs, eager to introduce new products or enhance existing technologies to capture a share of this multi-billion dollar industry. Over the years, the artificial lift domain has seen various technologies emerge and fade away. This presentation will feature a discussion on what makes an artificial lift system impactful and sustainable, focusing on the business drivers from an operating company's perspective. The speaker, with over 30 years of experience in the artificial lift domain and employed by one of the largest artificial lift users in the world, will share insights into recent technology trends that have proven to be impactful and those with potential.

    Shauna Noonan

    Fellow and Senior Director, OXY

     

    Shauna is an Fellow and Senior Director for OXY based in Houston, Texas. Previously at OXY, she held the roles of Chief of Production Engineering and Director of Artificial Lift Technology leading global teams of discipline experts in the production of oil and gas. She holds a BSc in petroleum engineering from the University of Alberta and has 30 years of industry experience, primarily in production operations and artificial lift systems globally at Oxy, Chevron and ConocoPhillips. She has published 25 technical papers on artificial lift and led the development of artificial lift system standards chairing both the Electric Submersible Pump and Progressing Cavity Pump ISO and API committees and was one of the original members of the Valve Performance Consortium for gas lift. She is the chair of the 2025 SPE-GCS Electric Submersible Pump Symposium and the co-chair of the 2025 SPE Progressing Cavity Pump workshop. She was the SPE Technical Director for Production Operations from 2012-2015, the 2020 SPE President and is currently the AIME President-Elect designate (will be AIME President in 2026). She has won several industry awards, including the SPE Regional Award for Production Operations, the J.C. Slonneger Award for those individuals that have made significant contributions to petroleum production technology, is an SPE Distinguished Member and was named one of the most Influential Women in Energy by Hart Energy Magazine in 2020.
