Leveraging Diagnostics to Identify Stimulation Uniformity Trends in the Montney
The opportunity to extract value from unconventional resource plays depends on our ability to effectively stimulate them. There are many ways for stimulation uniformity to be compromised, both in the near field and far field. Being able to identify uniformity trends in both domains can help converge on an optimal completion design and provide a pathway to further improvement. This talk will summarize recent efforts to evaluate completion effectiveness with various well designs and diagnostic technologies in the Alberta Montney. Together with well performance metrics, the insights from subsurface diagnostics are used to better understand and predict the impacts of stimulation uniformity.

Speaker Bio
Jaron van Dijken, Ph.D., P.Eng., CFA
Senior Reservoir Engineer, Veren Inc.
Jaron van Dijken is a broadly trained Petroleum Engineer with a current technical focus on subsurface diagnostics, rate transient analysis, and reservoir modelling. Most of his career has been focused on the Montney and Duvernay formations in Alberta and British Columbia, formerly at Shell and now at Veren. He holds a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta, is licensed with APEGA, and is a CFA Charterholder. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching hockey and skiing in the mountains with his family.
