Unbeaten Baseline Predicting ROP

In the realm of drilling operations, understanding the factors influencing the rate of penetration (ROP) is crucial. Our study delves into this domain, seeking answers to questions like: What drives ROP? And When do these influences come into play, impacting decision-making?


Our investigation draws from diverse data sources, including the Electronic Drilling Recorder, Geology extracts, directional survey, and mud and equipment data. Armed with this information, we constructed predictive models to estimate the rotating ROP in lateral section of the wellbore. Our work not only sheds light on ROP but also encourages a pragmatic approach to performance assessment.

    Phuc is a seasoned drilling engineer with over a decade of hands-on experience in North America's dynamic energy landscape. His passion lies in the realm of drilling optimization, where he's honed his skills in leveraging downhole data and cutting-edge drilling analytics to bring visibility to the details of drilling operation to improve operational efficiency. Phuc received an education in Engineering Physics from the University of Kansas.

    ARC Resources


    Geophysicist with over 15 years’ experience, working on a variety of exploration and development plays in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. For the past 5 years, Nathan has been working with ARC’s Geoscience and Data Science teams, enhancing workflows and advancing analytics capabilities.
