From Fossil to Fuel - Oil & Gas 101 Training Course
From Fossil to Fuel is an Oil and Gas 101 course that is designed for industry young professionals to educate them on the full lifecycle of our industry. It is a full day of training in an interactive classroom setting. Brendan describes the course as an adult picture book for oil and gas and he leverages pictures and analogies to simplify complex operational concepts like drilling and hydraulic fracturing. The course covers everything from the formation of fossil fuels all the way through refining, hence the title - From Fossil to Fuel.
Please note that this training course is for students and Young Professionals (those with under 10 years of experience). SPE Memberships are free for students!

Speaker Bio
Brendan McDougall, P.Eng.
Founder & Instructor, From Fossil to Fuel Ltd.
Brendan is an engineer that graduated from the University of Calgary in 2008 with a Bachelor in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. He has worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 18 years and is very passionate about educating the general population about the fundamentals of that industry.
He's also developed a 24 episode podcast that takes the course's material and divides it in 15-20 minute digestible chunks to act as a sort of digital textbook. He has been teaching this course for 6 years and won an industry award in 2023 for this work.
