Inflow Control Technology Fundamentals: Reservoir Analysis to Well Performance
Maximizing hydrocarbon recovery while minimizing unwanted water and gas production remains a key challenge in well completion and production optimization. Effective inflow control starts with understanding reservoir behavior, fluid properties, and production uncertainty. By integrating reservoir characterization, well performance analysis, and completion design, inflow control technologies help improve productivity, delay breakthrough, and extend asset life.
This Lunch & Learn session provides a practical introduction to inflow control technologies, from conventional ICDs and AICDs to Autonomous Inflow Control Valves (AICVs). Participants will learn how these technologies improve flow distribution, manage reservoir heterogeneity, and autonomously restrict unwanted water and gas based on fluid properties. The session will also explain the fundamental physics behind AICV operation and its impact on recovery, well economics, and sustainability.
Through field applications and real-world case studies, attendees will see how reservoir analysis, production forecasting, and flow modeling are applied to inflow control design. The session is intended for reservoir, production, and completion engineers seeking a practical foundation in how modern inflow control technologies transform reservoir potential into improved well performance

Maria Alejandra Roa
Senior Reservoir Engineer, InflowControl
Maria is a petroleum engineer with a master's degree in reservoir engineering and nearly eight years of experience spanning reservoir engineering, drilling data management, and hydraulic stimulation, work that has taken her across both North America and Latin America.
Since 2022, Maria has worked as a Reservoir Engineer at InflowControl. Her work centers on evaluating where Inflow Control technology can make the biggest impact, analyzing production trends and reservoir properties to identify water breakthrough mechanisms, performing near-wellbore modeling to support completion design, and monitoring well performance post-installation to ensure best practices and drive optimization.
Before InflowControl, Maria spent over four years at Halliburton, first as a Frac/Acid Stimulation Field Engineer and later as a Reservoir Simulation Support Analyst, giving her hands-on expertise in stimulation design, geomechanical simulation, and reservoir software support.
