Thinking like a Hacker to Protect Your Software

Get into the attacker mindset and join Stephen as he takes you on a tour of common security vulnerabilities in web applications, the ways that malicious actors approach and exploit them, and how we can protect improve application security. Stephen will first review the most common mistakes that developers make and how they can be exploited to gain access to sensitive data, systems, and infrastructure. Then step into the attacker’s shoes as Stephen walks you through attacker methodologies and exploits some of these vulnerabilities live against a mock application. Don’t worry, we still want you to sleep well afterwards. Stephen will finish by giving you some actionable steps you can take to make sure that you don’t fall prey to similar attacks.

    Stephen Mathezer

    Senior Director, Enterprise & OT Cybersecurity

     

    Armed with over 22 years of experience in various security roles preceded by seven years as a software developer, Stephen is an esteemed security practitioner, boasting expert level knowledge of operating system and network internals enabling him to architect, implement, support, and manage a wide variety of security solutions. A strong believer in maximizing existing solutions and capabilities before seeking new technology solutions, Stephen uses all the tools at his disposal to help enterprise customers reduce business risk and improve their security posture.

     

    His experience leading both operational and architectural security teams while securing and segregating industrial control networks in a sizeable oil and gas environment has given him a strong understanding of real-world security challenges. With many additional years of experience performing security assessments and penetration tests, Stephen understands the many ways in which an organization can be compromised and continues to work with customers to enhance their visibility, detect and respond to threats.

     

    Stephen holds many cybersecurity certifications and is currently a SANS Certified Instructor, the leading provider of information security training, teaching in the Offensive Operations and Industrial Control Systems curricula.
